STARTING ON THE TOOLS
Jessica Sidhu is the Lead Project Coordinator with Kinetic Construction. She got her start in the construction industry when she was 17 years old. Jessica took an ACE IT (now “Youth Train in Trades”) program during secondary school. Youth Train in Trades is a dual credit program earning students secondary school credits as well as technical training credits. She spent her final semester of secondary school working in the shop, drafting or building structures.
A BIGGER IMPACT
Jessica began to pursue her carpentry apprenticeship through North Island College and ultimately decided she wanted to make a greater impact. Jessica enrolled in the Architectural and Building Technology Program at BCIT. The program provides students with the skills and knowledge needed to work in building design and construction. During the summer, Jessica would work as a labourer with local construction companies. Jessica completed her practicum with Kinetic Construction during her final year of studies at BCIT after which she was offered a permanent position as a Project Coordinator.
TAKING THE LEAD
Jessica has been with Kinetic for 3 years and is now the Lead Project Coordinator. In this role, Jessica provides advice and training to Junior Project Coordinators and solves problems that may arise during planning and implementation of projects. With her background on the tools, Jessica understands building processes, this means that Jessica has an advantage when it comes to problem solving. Jessica believes that having experience on the tools and management skills is valuable for any career in the trades.
