Students from Templeton Secondary and John Oliver Secondary came together earlier this week to try their hand at boat building!
The competition preparations began last week when industry professionals provided preliminary instruction to the students and shared some of the fundamentals that would help them be successful on the big day.
Yesterday 75 students worked in 19 teams to transform cardboard and duct tape into a variety of water going craft. Seven of the boats made it across the 25-metre pool and one of the John Oliver teams had the fastest time of 50 seconds. Second and third place went to Templeton teams with 52 and 54 seconds respectively.
The slowest boat took a full 4 minutes. This boat was amazingly well constructed and lasted an additional 2 minutes in the endurance test.
Shelley McIvor and Roger Boulet from Quadrant Marine have been wonderfully supportive. A big shout out to Nolan Harper from Platinum Marine as well.
